PBS Frontline
“The Retirement Gamble”
On Tuesday evening, April 23, 2013, the PBS program Frontline aired “The Retirement Gamble,” which “raises troubling questions about how America’s financial institutions protect our savings, and asks whether there is a better way to manage our retirements.”
The 403b?
While the broadcast was extremely critical of 401(k) plans, there might be some reporting on the 403b–Dan and I and a young LAUSD elementary teacher, Crystal Mendez, were interviewed for this broadcast.
Whether you agree with the positions taken in the program or not, these programs can, and have, affected attitudes and policy, particularly in view of the recent and continued focus on retirement plan fees, the upcoming regulations on fiduciary standards, and congressional consideration of changing retirement tax rules.

Interesting program. It’s nice to see that at 44 I’ve done enough research and read enough books about Bogle that I’ve been investing in Vanguard funds for a few years. It’s nice to have a simple set it and forget it style of investing that allows you to not keep track of everyday market fluctuations.
Exactly my sentiments. My portfolio is so boring in its day to day fluctuations it would make the tortoise, the famous tortoise vs. hare race, look like a formula-one race car.
